AuditionS IN SEPTEMBER!
Auditions for our fall play(s) are in early September and are open all of SPHS. Go here for more information.
The most innovative theater isn't always on Broadway. This fall, SPHS Drama is taking on pieces created by smart, irreverent people who challenge the status quo. We will present two shows that were created in New York City and Chicago by pioneering theater companies.
Our first act — Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind: 30 Plays in 60 Minutes — ran 50 weeks a year for 28 years in Chicago. This underground institution is a wild hour of theater where the audience selects the order of the plays in real time and no two shows are ever the same. Too Much Light (TML) is a wild, fun show heavy audience interaction.
Our second act — Gone Missing — was created by NYC theater company The Civilians, known for its investigative theater style and its ability to rethink what a “musical” can be. For this show, they interviewed New Yorkers about things they’ve lost: their temper, a shoe, their marriage, their baggage, their motivation. Most of the show is a recreation of these interviews interspersed with some songs. Gone Missing was written by Steve Cosson following interviews by the company. The music and lyrics are by Michael Friedman (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson).
OPENING NIGHT IS APRIL 24th, 2025
